Welcome back to another installment of Abby Rectifies the Concerning Lack of Bookish Lists on the Blog. Woo!
Today, I’d like to share with you some characters that I would do pretty much anything for. (Except for, you know, breaking the law. I am a morally upright citizen.) There are many ways a character could make it onto this list. It could be because their author is cruel and refuses to give them a break. It could be because of the sin for being too precious for this world. Or it could be because there’s nobody else except me in their life willing to show them love and support. (I’m not crying, you are.)
So without further ado, let’s get to the list!
The Gangsey — The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
Yes, I know I’m cheating by picking a literal crew of characters. But I can’t help myself. I’m just over halfway through The Raven Boys, and I’m pretty sure I would go to the moon and back for these boys.
Blue, Gansey, and Adam stole my heart from the moment they appeared on page. I’m excited to get to know Noah better. As for Ronan…. we’re getting there. They’re just so precious and must be protected from the supernatural forces out to get them. I would gladly heave my entire store of chocolate over their heads if it helped them in any way. (It probably wouldn’t, but you get my point.)
Ximena — Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibañez
Ximena has been there, done it all. Whether it’s posing as the Condesa, scheming to murder a false king, coming to terms with painful truths about prejudice, or uncovering the identity of a masked vigilante, all while juggling her own eventful love life, Ximena is a warrior who would probably be very confused if I ever gave her the hug she rightfully deserves. Her temper and impulsiveness make her a fierce fighter, but the softer side of her personality makes me want to shield her from the violence of the world, though she would probably stab me in the back if I tried.
Holland — Shades of Magic Trilogy by V. E. Schwab
Do I mention Holland in basically every non-review post I write? Yes. Am I shamelessly mentioning him again in this post? Yes. Do I have any regrets? Nope.
I loved Holland from the first book of this series, even while he was going around trying to murder our protagonists. I loved him in the second book, even while he was again going around trying to murder our protagonists. I loved him in the third book so much. I just want to tell him that he’s doing the best he can do and that I appreciate his existence. *sobs* At the very least, he should be allowed to try cake. (Seriously, V. E. Schwab, why do you do this to him 😭)
Eliza — My Dear Hamilton by Stephanie Dray & Laura Kamoie
I just finished this book, and I am now officially head over heels for the wonder that is Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. Her entire character arc, her loving and kind nature, her stubborn and impulsive streak, her pillar-like strength, the earnest love she has for her family and husband — this book portrays the finest points of Eliza’s personality as separate from everyone’s favorite ten-dollar Founding Father, and to good effect.
I love every part of Eliza’s character. It would be an honor and privilege to get to know her.
Grey — A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
This guy. THIS GUY. I LOVE HIM. He’s the reason I fall in love with every single guard I read about in a book.
Can someone just give him a break??? He doesn’t deserve everything that he’s gone through. I’m pretty sure I would do anything to make sure he doesn’t swear himself to anybody else ever again. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: Lia Mara has no idea how lucky she is.
That’s it for today! How about you? Do you agree with my choices? Do you have any characters that you would do anything for? Chat with me in the comments!
