Rating System

I use a 5-star rating system for the books that I review on this blog, with partial star ratings being possible as well.

⭑ ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ — I LOVED THIS BOOK. I will dream about it, scream about it, and basically spend the rest of my days obsessing over it.

⭑ ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ — I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I would be proud to display this book on my bookshelf.

⭑ ⭑ ⭑ — I liked this book, though it could have been better. I could have fallen in love with it if I tried hard enough.

⭑ ⭑ — This book wasn’t good. The negatives outweighed the positives.

⭑ — I regret reading this book. It was a struggle to get through, and had no literary merit at all.

In addition to the standard star rating, I also write a Christian Reflection for each review, in which I focus on one of the nine characteristics listed in Galatians 5:22-23 in differing ways depending on the book. I might focus on a virtue that one of the characters in the book would be better off adopting, or in what ways a character displays a certain trait. What I say in my Christian Reflection usually does not reflect what I think of the book overall; the segment is basically just a way for me to reflect on God’s Word and think about how to apply it to my own life.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
