The Month in Books: July 2021

Hello everyone, and happy August!! How have you all been spending your summer (or winter, depending on the hemisphere)? For me personally, July was a much-needed reprieve from school stress, and I finally got the chance to indulge in some fantastic books, which I’ll be talking about in this post! I feel like I’m supposed to say something more in this intro, but it’s been so long since I’ve written a wrap-up—the last one was in March, I think—and my head is just blanking on what I’m supposed to write 😅 So why don’t we just go ahead and get started!

The Month(s) in Books: Jan & Feb 2021

Hello everyone!! I am so sorry to say this over halfway through the month, but happy March, otherwise known as Women’s History Month! 🙋‍♀️💃 And I just realized I never wished you all a happy Black History Month — I had a couple of posts I wanted to get up to honor the occasion, but I guess those never came to fruition… hopefully sometime soon!

But anyway. Time is really speeding by, isn’t it? We’re already around 20% through 2021, and in just a week or so we’ll be a whole quarter through this year! It’s absurd, I tell you. The past two months have been SO crazy school-wise, what with the craziness of a new school semester and a ton of assessments that my teachers suddenly decided to dump on me all at once. As a result, I haven’t been able to get as much reading done, which is sort of disappointing, but we take what we can get, y’know? But I’m hoping that the worst of the chaos is mostly over now, so I’ve decided to (finally) sit down and give you all a very overdue wrap-up of my January and February! I’ve also sort of changed my wrap-up structure, so let me know what you think of it in the comments! Hope you enjoy 💜

Review: A Vow So Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer

You all know at this point how passionate I am about my love for the Cursebreakers series. You also all know (or probably can imagine) that I spent the days leading up to the release of this book in a near-perpetual state of hyperventilation. And now here, at long last, is my review of my most anticipated book of 2021 that I will flatter myself by thinking you have been dying to read.

🚨 Full disclaimer that this review will NOT contain spoilers for any of the books in the series. Spoilers for any of the books will be marked as such. In particular, there is one important event from A Heart So Fierce and Broken that defines a lot of the character development in this book, so I’ll be referring to that event as *the incident* (very creative, I know).

So without further ado, let’s get started!

Yearly Wrap: All of My 2020 Faves + 2021 Resolutions!

Hello hello hello!! Long time, no see, everyone!! First things first: HAPPY NEW YEAR! How have you all been?? I hope you’ve all been staying safe and happy and are well on your way to achieve all of your 2021 goals. I personally am doing very nicely! I know I disappeared on you for like a month (it’s somehow already three weeks into January?!?!) and I’m sorry about that… I blame it on having more winter break homework than anticipated, plus lack of motivation and procrastination.

Review: A Sky Beyond the Storm by Sabaa Tahir

I am officially deceased. Goodbye, cruel world, you who allow authors like Sabaa Tahir to freely roam upon your surface to wreak havoc on the hearts and minds of innocent readers.

*dies dramatically*

In all seriousness, though, this book nearly killed me with how good it was. So let’s get into the long-awaited review already.

The Month(s) in Books: October & November 2020

Hello hello hello everyone!! Happy December! Contrary to all appearances, I have not, in fact, fallen off the face of the earth! Life has been a whirlwind these past two months, but I think everything’s settling into place. Emphasis on I think.

But I’ve been productive in the meantime! I’ve officially jumped on the Toujours bandwagon, and even *gasp* adopted a color scheme! Who knew, maybe graphic design is still an open option for me.

That was sarcasm, by the way.

The Liebster Award — Takes 4 & 5!

Hello everyone, and welcome back! Happy November everyone! At this point, I’m just going to have to resign myself to the fact that I’m going to be posting very irregularly until I get my life together. I know I haven’t even posted an October wrap-up yet… and I’ve decided that I should continue procrastinating while I’m at it 😅🤷‍♀️ So be on the lookout for a combined October-November wrap at the end of this month!

Instead, I thought it was about time I started catching up on the million tags I’m behind on! Thank you so much to Nefeli @ BiblioNebula and Becky @ Dusts of Magic for nominating me for the Liebster Award 🥰 For all of you who are reading this, go check both of their blogs out and give them some love — they’re both amazing people! I can’t wait to start answering their wonderful questions!

Review: Soothsayer by Kathryn Amurra

Hello and welcome — you know what, fixed-in-stone openings are overrated. I AM ALIVE FOLKS. I have been an abysmal blogger as of late; I haven’t posted in almost 2 weeks, which is a record for me 😬 In my defense, school life has been pretty fraught recently. Tests, quizzes, endless assignments, projects, grades, the subsequent and inevitable mental breakdowns… you know the drill.

But hey, I’m back! Equipped with a book review, at that! Soothsayer was a fantastic read, and I can’t wait to share my thoughts about it with you all!

Review: Skyhunter by Marie Lu

Did someone say Marie Lu? Because I heard Marie Lu, and I. came. running.

I confess that I haven’t read anything from this author other than her debut, the Legend trilogy, but as soon as I saw that her newest release had been added to Libby, I knew I had to snatch it up. And can I just a take moment to compliment myself on how soon after release I was able to read this book *pats myself on the back* 🤗😌

Anyway. I may or may not have forgotten how to write a review over the past couple of weeks, but let’s see how well I can describe all the reasons I loved this book.

The Liebster Award — Take 3!

Hello everyone, and welcome back! I hope you’re all having a beautiful day so far. The lovely MT @ The Last Book On The Left nominated me for the Liebster Award last month!! Thank you so much, MT!! It wouldn’t be an award post without me sobbing over how amazing this community is, and as this is already the third time I’ve been nominated for this award, I think this calls for some extra-profuse weeping 🥰🥺😭
